I like the "legginess" of this design--how elements are scattered across this horizontal axis almost haphazardly, and how the bowl somehow anchors it all and makes it cohere. Wonderful color and "touch" with the pastel, too.

Thanks, Don! I've been thinking of you. Hope the move went well and things are settling down.
Appreciate your comments. The composition seems to be a variant of the "Constellation" effect. Interesting, because this pastel is @22 years old and bears a strong resemblance to later work in oils, that also use a similar coposition stem.
I'm still in the looking back/looking forward mode and plan to show just a few more pastels from that work period. I lost many to Katrina. Still working on cleaning off the all the stored glass that went throught the storm without being broken, but bear the telltale signs of submersion.

Thanks very much, Deborah!
Plan on trying a pastel soon where I steam the surface, while working. After underpainting, maybe with tempera.....
This was a 'straight' pastel on toned, gesso & pumice coated watercolor paper. Somehow, it survived Katrina and years of neglect, buried in the studio.

Joan, I hope you'll forgive me, but I'm tagging you! Details for how it works are on my blog.

Happy painting.
