"Dreams of Love", 24 x 24 in., bas relief scuplture

Even though this is not a painting, I wanted to post this as a reminder to myself to get back on track with sculpting.
This sculpture was featured roughly 15 years ago on the Rounder Records album cover "Dreams of Love", featuring my husband, Tony Dagradi.
I love modeling form, whether with clay or creating the illusion of it with paint.
Working with clay regularly to create new work is one of my New Year's goals for 2007.
Augustus St. Gauden's bas reliefs have been a huge inspiration for me, as well as the works of Daniel Chester French, Desiderio, and Donatello. Seeing Rodin's "Gates of Hell" at a museum show was probably the initial catalyst for my interest in sculpture. Copies of the "Gates of Hell" are on view at the Musee D' Orsay and at the Rodin Museum, both in Paris.

Joan, I was just reading somewhere about the continuity of sculpture, architecture and painting in the Renaissance. An artist, then, would think nothing of doing all three.
When I was in Northern Italy last year, my tour group received the gift of one of these relief works. It is lovely, and the Italians are noteworthy for their graciousness.

Beautifully done. I hope the posting does help you get your
sculptural train "back on track." It'd be great to see more
of your 3D postings in the future.
